وقال الحافظ ابن حجر في الفتح (١٠/٣٤٥): ولم يثبت في ترتيب الأصابع عند القص شيء من الأحاديث، لكن جزم النووي في شرح مسلم بأنه يستحب البداءة بمسبحة اليمنى ثم بالوسطى ثم البنصر ثم الخنصر ثم الإبهام، وفي اليسرى بالبداءة بخنصرها ثم بالبنصر إلى الإبهام، ويبدأ في الرجلين بخنصر اليمنى إلى الإبهام، وفي اليسرى بإبهامها إلى الخنصر، ولم يذكر للاستحباب مستندا. وقال في شرح المهذب بعد أن نقل عن الغزالي وأن المازري اشتد إنكاره عليه فيه: لا بأس بما قاله الغزالي إلا في تأخير إبهام اليد اليمنى، فالأولى أن تقدم اليمنى بكمالها على اليسرى. قال: وأما الحديث الذي ذكره الغزالي فلا أصل له اهـ، وقال ابن دقيق العيد: يحتاج من ادعى استحباب تقديم اليد في القص على الرجل إلى دليل، فإن الإطلاق يأبى ذلك. قلت: يمكن أن يؤخذ بالقياس على الوضوء، والجامع التنظيف. وتوجيه البداءة باليمنى لحديث عائشة الذي مر في الطهارة: كان يعجبه التيمن في طهوره وترجله وفي شأنه كله. والبداءة بالمسبحة منها لكونها أشرف الأصابع لأنها آلة التشهد، وأما اتباعها بالوسطى فلأن غالب من يقلم أظفاره يقلمها من قبل ظهر الكف، فتكون الوسطى جهة يمينه، فيستمر إلى أن يختم بالخنصر، ثم يكمل اليد بقص الإبهام. وأما في اليسرى فإذا بدأ بالخنصر لزم أن يستمر على جهة اليمين إلى الإبهام. قال شيخنا في شرح الترمذي: وكان ينبغي أن لو أخر إبهام اليمنى ليختم بها، ويكون قد استمر على الانتقال إلى جهة اليمنى، ولعل الأول لحظ فصل كل يد عن الأخرى، وهذا التوجيه في اليدين يعكر على ما نقله في الرجلين إلا أن يقال: غالب من يقلم أظفار رجليه يقلمها من جهة باطن القدمين فيستمر التوجيه.
وتبع الملا عليُّ القاري النوويَّ، فقال في المرقاة (١/٣٩٦): وقص الأظفار: أي تقليمها وتحصل سنيتها بأي كيفية كانت، وأولاها أن يبدأ في اليدين بمسبحة اليمنى ثم الوسطى ثم البنصر ثم الخنصر ثم الإبهام، ثم خنصر اليد اليسرى ثم بنصرها ثم وسطاها ثم مسبحتها ثم إبهامها، وفي الرجلين بخنصر اليمنى ويختم بخنصر Nail Cutting Sunnah اليسرى، انتهى.
